Gloria is a 100% Merino superwash yarn, super soft and lightweight. With 219 yards per 100 grams skein, you can use Gloria for a great variety of designs and garments. With its classic three-ply construction Gloria is very elastic and squishy, making it super nice to knit and producing a very neat fabric, so it is ideal for highlighting stitches and cables. We dye it by hand in our cooperatives in 23 gorgeous colors.
When starting to work on Gloria´s color card, we turned to Matteo Fogale and Laetitia de Allegri, a duo of young talented designers. Matteo is Uruguayan and Laetitia is Swiss and the both live in London where they are forging a successful career.
We got in contact last summer when they visited Uruguay. They were interested in working with Uruguay's time honoured crafts and traditional skills, specially wool and wood work.So they embarked in a road trip through Uruguay of a month length, visiting rural areas, small villages and seaside resorts.
The duo went to Algorta, a small town where one of Manos cooperatives is located. There, they got to know the artisans, share some time with them, inquire about their work and learn a bit of hand weaving.
When we asked Matteo and Laetitia to help us with Gloria's color card, they turned to the pictures they had taken during
that trip as a source of inspiration.
The pictures are small pieces of the Uruguayan landscape: a small plant in a sidewalk, a fisher ship in Punta del Diablo beach, the
patio of an estancia.... as a group they speak more about Uruguay of what could have been explained in words.
